New tool - - - > Box joint jig

I have always wanted to learn to make dovetails or box joints.  Dove tails are a little fancier, so I started with Box joints.  I needed a jig or some type of template.  After viewing several online tutorials, I decided I could make my own box joint jig.

I used some scrap steel and made a 'sled' that moves over the router table.  I have a backer board that is attached with wood screws to a welded flange, and I can adjust using the 'c' clamps.  It seems to be
working fairly well.

Little box from scrap wood to set the spacing,
then cut a few oak boxes.  Started the glue up this evening.

Bon-bon is taking a nap in the back ground.

-skeeters

Here at the Old Raven workshop we like to repurpose what we can, even rain water.  Mrs. Old Raven likes to dip her watering can into the rain bucket to use the rain water for plants.  I knew we needed a lid to keep the mosquitos at bay, but I had other projects.  When I saw swimming mosquito larva, I figured it was time to dump the rain barrel, but then I though to try something...  $1.20 later with 5 little gold fish from local pet shop turned loose in the rain barrel, all of the mosquito larvae were gone by the next morning.
nothing fancy... just a rain barrel
swim little fellas, swim!

 Happy fish.

Update : It is now September - we still have 3 happy fish swimming around in there and not another sign of mosquito larva.  In a couple of weeks the little fellas in the rain barrel will get to join the other fish in the pond for the winter.

The 'guide' is removable (two screws), or you can turn it around and not use the guide.

The base is 11.25" x 9.25".
The spindle is 10" tall from the circle.
The circle is 8.25" across at the center.  (Just right size)
